Louisiana: more than just Mardi gras

Cajun food, Mardi gras and Zydeco are just some of the attractions in the state of Louisiana. The casinos in this state are bringing in revenues and adding more popularity to its already famous reputation. Casinos in Louisiana extend from north to south and run from east to west.

In 1991, Louisiana became the fourth state that was approved to operate riverboat gambling casinos. And in 1992 the state government approved one casino in New Orleans. There are three land-based casinos in Louisiana that are operated by the American Indians.

A trip to Louisiana is never complete without checking out any of its many casinos. The Casino Magic, Isle of Capri, Horseshoe, Harrah's and Louisiana Downs are all situated at the Northern part of Louisiana. Sam's Town and the Hollywood Casino are situated in Shreveport. Every Memorial Day weekend, Shreveport hosts the annual Mudbug Madness, which is a festival that features local crafts, Creole cooking and lots of great music.

The Paragon Casino one of the three Indian casinos in Louisiana and it is situated in the city of Marksville. The Avoyelles Parish, where Marksville is located, is quite abundant with historical landmarks such as Civil War battle sites and a primeval Indian mound.

The Southern Louisiana casinos include Harrah's, Isle of Capri, L'auberge du Lac located in Lake Charles, Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton and Grand Casino Coushatta in Kinder. The Argosy casino and Casino Rouge are both located in Baton Rouge. The other two Indian casinos in Louisiana are the Coushatta and Cypress Bayou Casinos.

Louisiana's Southeastern casinos include Boomtown in the city of Harvey and Treasure Chest in Kenner. The Belle of Orleans in New Orleans closed since the city was struck by Hurricane Katrina. There is no final word about its reopening in the future. Harrah's casino reopened last February, just in time for the 2006 Mardi Gras.

The Rivertown casino located in Kenner showcases the best that the culture and history of Louisiana can give. Kenner is situated along the shores of the Mississippi River and it is home to many historic establishments such as art galleries and museums that feature the best of Louisiana.

Louisiana is a great place to be for entertainment, culture and history. The charm of Louisiana has captivated many tourists and local visitors to witness the many spectacles of the state.
