UK Seeks International Code for Online Casinos

United Kingdom culture secretary, Tessa Jowell, is planning to develop an international code for online casinos.

As groundwork for the Gambling Act, the culture secretary is targeting the offshore online casinos.

In a plan to regulate the gambling industry, the UK will host a summit in October this year to consolidate new codes for operations and practices in online gaming. The casinos in Cayman Islands, the Turks and Calicos Island, Antigua, Costa Rica and the Cayman Islands might be affected by the new codes of operation.

The International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization and other government representatives from offshore gambling industries are to be invited. The dialogues will center on the possible provision that will require age verification process for casino players.

The move of the UK to regulate the gambling industry may not be easy. Convincing the casinos to impose and implement stricter rules that will surely affect their lucrative source of income will be difficult.

The culture secretary acknowledge that reaching an agreement would be hard but they are optimistic that the movers and shakers in the gambling industry will be responsible to understand that this restrictions are for the improvement of the gambling industry.

The Gambling Act that will allow online game industry to be based onshore will be fully implemented on September 2007.
